Hair Jump and Hair Shrinkage: What's in a Name...How about Super Hero Powers

I am a big fan of hair, including afro-textured hair. One characteristic of afro-textured hair is that it tends to draw up, in its natural state. Many refer to this as shrinkage. That's okay, too. I think you should refer to concepts in the way that resonates best with you. Although I understand the words hair shrinkage, I prefer the words hair jump. In my mind, hair jump is a 'capability' or a positive trait or characteristic of afro-textured hair. For me, shrinkage infers a detriment, something negative.
Hair jump reminds me of super heroes and their incredible powers. Afro-textured hair can hang out around your ears. If it has the length, you can literally reach behind your back and pull it down to your bra-strap, to mid back, or even to your waist. Then, you could let it go and it would spring right back to your ears- unscathed and undamaged, leaping in a single bound. If you were to ask me, I'd say that's an amazing feat. When I think of what afro-textured hair can do, my little eyes light up and my little chest puffs out, proudly.
Hair Jump on afro textured hair:
If I could put a little cape on my hair, I would. Maybe, the next time you see a towel on a little one's head, seeming to emulate hair, give her a smile. Her afro-textured hair doesn't always hang down her back. Whether it does or does not is not the point.
She can leave that towel on her head, though. That's because her afro-textured hair has super hero capabilities. We all know that every Super Hero deserves a cape. That would include your hair jumping afro-textured hair. Here's to more leaps and bounds in all of our futures!
